The Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio is an award-winning, license-free radio designed and tested in the Colorado Rockies for climbers, skiers, and backcountry athletes. It transmits at the maximum power allowed without a license (2 watts), with a tested max range of 35+ miles — though 1–5 miles is more typical in backcountry terrain. A specialized lithium-ion battery delivers 3–5 days of life even in extreme cold, and a shatterproof LED screen, tough thermoplastic covering, and climbing-rated Trango® Quantum carabiner make it far more durable than typical radios.
